My wife and I love to hike with our German Shepherd. However, her (the dog) behavior had become an issue. Whenever, she sees another dog or horse, she loses her mind, and we lose control of her. We did not want to resolve ourselves to hike with her on a leash.
Now that we have this device she “comes” on command, and not on the second or third time we call. She comes the first time, and to my hand. Now we can hike with her, and gain control when we see dogs, horses, and those who do not share our enthusiasm for dogs.
I like to add this devise is not cruel in any form. It has a dial of 8 settings. I tried it on myself. I could not feel “1″ at all. “2″ and “3″ tingled. “4″ felt uncomfortable (not painful), and that is where our dog is set.
The only issue is at home. We have an “invisible fence”, which works on a very similar principle. The issue is that when I “beep” her or “zap” her at home, she becomes very confused. Hence, we only use it primarily for our hikes, which was our desired goal anyways.
The conclusion is that I highly recommend it for hiking or rather “off-leash” walks. You may have mixed results at home, if you have an “invisible fence”. Although without the “invisible fence” issue, I believe it would be very effective for any sort of training.
Bottom line is that it works and I wish had I bought this tool earlier.

POSITIVE:
We absolutely love our beautiful Beagle but she does have a mind of her own. We were struggling to train her to stop some of her bad habits from digging in our yard to chewing everything but she was not responding and we were getting very frustrated with her digging up our flower beds and trees and potted plants and chewing our expensive blinds in our kitchen and our kitchen table and chairs amongst many other things. After much research, we came across this product. For the price, it seemed to be the best of it’s kind on the market and we would have to agree. It is expensive (for us) but we feel it is well worth it especially since there are not many trainers on the market for this price that have rechargeable batteries.
Upon receiving it in the mail and charging it, we promptly followed the instructions, using the positive reinforcement tone for a couple days and rewarding our dog every time she obeyed. Next we spent a couple of hours one afternoon using the negative tone and a handful of shocks to train her to come and sit – things we were struggling to train her to do before – and she obeyed! We couldn’t believe how quickly she responded. For us, that was all it took. All we do now is just use the negative tone and she responds immediately as she does in a positive way to the positive tone. This product has worked magically for us and helped in a big way to take away the frustration we were experiencing with our dog not responding to our previous efforts to train her.
NEGATIVE:
We have found only one thing wrong with this product and it’s not really an issue but the manual says that the batteries need to be recharged every 40 – 50 hours (something like that) in terms of use but we have found that we need to charge it every day, even if we don’t use it a whole lot. We just charge it overnight. Like I said before, it’s not a problem for us but we are charging it sooner than we expected to. However, at least the batteries are rechargeable and we don’t have to special order them from the manufacturer like many of the other trainers on the market that cost less than this trainer.

I was very opposed to this collar, as I was afraid that the “shock” was inhumane!!!!!! My dog was only about 15 months old, with a very high drive–she is a standard schnauzer–and her constant barking, jumping up on people, and her inability to obey commands when she was distracted by other dogs was making me crazy. She was becoming very high maintainence, and I knew that if we didn’t address it before she got any older, we were in for a pet that was not going to be enjoyable. She went to puppy training and obedience training and did very well as she is an extremely smart breed and she was eager to please us. Unfortunately, that was all short lived if there happened to be a stranger–person, truck, dog, bird, rabbit, etc.–in sight. This collar was purchased as a last resort before spending many more dollars on advanced training in our home. DO NOT HESITATE–BUY IT NOW!!!!! We started using this collar immediately after the charge was complete. After a few days of using the tones only, we used the “shock” once on #3 as she seemed to not feel #1 & #2 when she was in a barking frenzy. That was 4 months ago and we never had to use the “shock” again!! It works like a charm!! Now, every time she does any undesirable behavior, we use a 2 word command and the tones and she stops the behavior immediately!! She can wander around without a leash in the front of our house and she listens to all our commands, even with birds, rabbits, people, dogs, etc. around. People that see her without a leash are impressed by her obedience and so are we!!!!!! The collar does not replace hard work and consistency, though, but it has made training much easier and it really hasn’t taken her long at all to relate the negative tones with the negative behavior! WELL WORTH THE PRICE!!!!!!!!

I am a professional dog trainer and use 4-5 e-collars a year for pet sporting dogs with poor recalls.(dogs are too birdy off leash).
It is hard to find a good rechargable collar. One of my old clients is now my neighbor, and we go field walking 5 times week, with her birdy, fast, brittany. Dory is perfectly trained, but still needs her collar for recalls off pheasents, just touch of the sound button to re-enforce the owners yell, and she comes.
No e- collar should be used on a dog that is untrained. E-collars are not for training!!!. E-collars only re-enforce trained behavior. It takes a minimum of ten weeks, and a thousand reps to start to train a behavior. I have seen some screwed up dogs that the owners were lazy and put this on instead of training.
Follow the directions, A good quality collar like this, well,” you get what you pay for”. and this is an intermediate priced collar, they alst maybe a year. Do not over charge the handset!!!
If you don’t know how to use it, get to a good trainer first!, not last.

I have tried every collar there is for my 2 1/2 year old Rottweiler. She has three head collars, 2 harnesses, pinch collars, choker chains and regular nylon collars. NOTHING works on her. She has been through 4 months of obedience training and my husband and I have spent hours working with her and walking her daily. We love to go hiking but, she had a bad habit of lunging at people and bikes. Once she got worked up from seeing another hiker or biker, we could not seem to calm her back down. She just became crazy in the head and hard to control. It became so bad that we had to stop hiking because she scared other people and with her size, 112 pounds, it was really taking a toll on our shoulders trying to keep her under control. She was never aggressive, not growling or biting, just lunging and hard to keep hold of. Several times, she pulled me off my feet. This collar has been a miracle for us. She is a perfect little angel now. She gets over and sits on command when a jogger or car goes by and if I sense she is going to jump, I give her the warning beep. It only took about a week of using the “shock” before she got it and now we almost never have to use the stimulation. The beep is all she needs now. I must admit, the price kept me from buying it sooner but, I wish I would have got it a long time ago. This is the solution for problem behavior. I highly recommend this product and it has been the only thing that has worked for her. It is so nice to have a well behaved dog. All the training she went through made a difference too. She had the knowledge, she just refused to obey until we had this collar. It is worth the price.

I have been using this for about a year. Like the other reviewer, my dog is also on a radio fence at home. I was concerned that this collar would be confusing. I think at first it was, but after 2 days of training, my Rocco would come on command. For the most part, now I only need to send him a tone-only correction if he doesn’t come and he responds to that. I very rarely need to send the zap correction.
Petsafe makes great products and they stand by them. It is important to read all the training guidelines to make sure that you use it correctly.

I had purchased a PetSafe PDBDT-305 for my Golden Retriever mix. After about 8 months of use, it was nothing but a battery eater! We researched the internet for a better unit. We purchased this one and couldn’t be happier with it! The tone is loud enough that we can hear it, so we don’t have to guess if it actually beeped. We have it set on “1″ and it seems to be enough to get her attention. Others have mentioned how large it is, but it really isn’t too bad. The collar has more than enough length to fit any size neck. We will have to trim off quite a lot. The remote is great! It is more ergonomic, the dial doesn’t move so easy that you accidently set it on another number, like our previous Pet Safe Trainer. The buttons are easier to press and conveniently located. The neck strap is nice, too! It is nice to have a rechargeable unit! It will save us money in the long run. So far it has worked completely as stated. The range in much better than our previous unit, too! After searching for pricing, Amazon had the best price. We received it faster than expected. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone! Petsafe PDT00-10603 400 Yard and Park Remote Trainer

I bought this collar for my 7 month old Belgian Malinois. For those of you that don’t know, the Malinois are notoriously high strung dogs. My dog is very intelligent and does listen rather well; however I was having problems with him running out the front door when I was taking my other dogs out and barking uncontrollably. If I was going out the door to go to work, he was out in the yard in half a second. No matter what I did he would not “stay” inside when I told him to. It was beginning to drive me nuts. I talked to one of my neighbors who is training a police k-9. He told me about a collar that his trainer was using and suggested I try one. I went out the next day and purchased one. After charging the collar and the remote, I was amazed at how quickly my dog began to catch on to the idea of me being a the boss! I set the collar on 4 in the beginning and have since decreased the level of shock and am still getting amazing results! I now have an even better trained dog that I can be proud of! At only 7 months old he’s behaving amazingly!
As far as the reviews that have complaints about the battery life: The manual says the collar needs to be recharged every 40-60 hours. When looking further into the manual, it says the batteries are good for 20 hours of working time. I found this amount of time to be perfectly suffecient for what I was using it for. Charging over night and using it during the day was ideal! Hands down this was the best thing I’ve purchased yet for any of my dogs!

Here is the background on the dog: a beautiful yellow lab mix-about 55 lbs. A very nice and good-natured dog, however we adopted her at 9 months from a bunch of college kids at the college where I teach who had to get rid of her. She was totally undisciplined-pulling terribly on the lease and very protective in that she would run at kids on bikes and other people and bark terribly (she would never bite at anyone but sounded really scary). When I would take her fishing for steelhead trout on the Cleveland area rivers she would be great until she saw another fisherman on the river and would run right at him and get in his face barking-again no biting but very scary.
My first approach was to go to a highly recommended dog training class in the area. Yes I admit that I didn’t do everything that I should have homework wise, but I could tell from the beginning it was going to be essentially a waste of time. The nice people there were your typical granola-types: treat the dog with respect and gently at all times, treat it when it does the right thing and EVENTUALLY it will come around. As would be the logical result with most busy people, this proved to be unrealistic and the problems continued.
My next step was to talk to my Uncle Ted (a great hunter and fisherman from Idaho who had dog training experience who came back to steelhead fish with me). His immediate recommendation after experiencing the dog rushing at another fisherman on the river was to get a remote dog trainer that would shock the dog when it went at someone.
I was reluctant to do this, so I first got a harness lead for the pulling problem. The walking lead worked intermittently in that the dog is very head-strong, which I kind of like to a degree. So I started thinking about Uncle Ted’s advice.
Now the product. This is the best dog trainer product I could have hoped for. I was so mad at the time that I made the kids train the dog on the remote trainer after having the kids thoroughly reading the manual-apparently an overnight charge right off is necessary. The kids ended up zapping her a couple of times on the lower settings.
By the time I got on it I was amazed. I have not yet zapped the dog. I no longer walk the dog on a lease. I always take treats when I walk her and there is a button on the left of the unit that is the reward signal (90% of the time all I have to do is call her name, give her the reward signal when she responds and reward her). There are two other buttons on the front of the unit-one is a warning signal and the other is the zapper with ranges from 1-8. It is very simple, which I love. The other 10% of the time I have only had to warn her and that is all it takes to get her right back. By the way, I couldn’t get her acclimated to the backyard in-ground fence until all this happened-she had been zapped in the backyard and was very reluctant to go off the porch. Now she seems OK with that collar and will walk out near the warning flags.
This is the first review I have ever written. I would never have taken the time other than the fact that I just walked the dog again and I am so impressed with this product and the low price of it that I’ve taken the time. I have told every neighbor with a dog to make the modest investment after explaining my results.
If I had it to do over again (this is our first dog), I would have saved the $150 from the training class, gotten a dog book from the library on basic training and commands and the remote trainer from the get-go.
I’m very happy with this product and looking back after knowing how it works, I would have paid many hundreds for it.

I wish I would have bought this years ago for a previous dog that I owned. I use this collar on a dog that weighs 12 pounds and the collar would easily adjust to fit to an even smaller dog. We use it for many reasons i.e. stopped her nipping at the kids, walking off leash w/o running away, not barking, etc. This product is a miracle. I absolutely love it!!!
