How to communicate with a dog in their own language- dog training dog communication

In no way do I condone pestering a dog in order to make them offer calming signals for you to see. I kissed Kiko on the head in this video to show you something that dogs **** that is often done to them, not that I want to condone it! ☺ Dogs bite. You should never put your face in a dogs face. Calming signals can be offered when you are standing or sitting, I was very close to Splash at one point in this video because it was hard to fit us in the video screen, and Splash is very comfortable …

So when a dog gives a calming signal it means leave me alone?

Right after watching this video I went to take my dog for a walk, and when I went to put the harness over his head he clearly turned his head and licked his lips! So I got some treats and lured him into it instead, and that seemed to make it less stressful. Great video!

Great information. This stuff really works. My hubby and I were on our bikes stopped behind a car w/ dog barking furiously at us (I’m sure we looked like scary aliens.) Both of us turned our heads and yawned and the dog simply stopped barking. Amazing and so easy. Made a believer out of my skeptical husband.

I sigh at my dog when her ears perk up at a strange noise outside. I had no idea why that worked but it does! Thanks so much. As always, fantastic video.

Oh, I definitely think this subject is absolutely fascinating. I’ve actually considered getting into researching dog behavior and such simply because it is so interesting to me. I’ve heard about calming signals before, but, like others, I often forget about them because many people are not aware of them. Again, awesome video! Thank you!

hi i am really interested in calming signals also…but keep forgetting to use them :( BUT i have read alot and a book that i found was really good was one by Brenda Aloff called CANINE BODY LANGUAGE – a photographic guide…it is 400pages long. and has some excellent photographic descriptions in it. also have a vid by someone else but cant remember the name and a friend borrowing it at the mo..lol!

I like this. I understood this to mean that it is also something they do when they are not particularly calm. Is this right? Thank you for the info.

Wow, You learn something new everyday.
I was under the impression that when I patted my girl on the head and she yawned the patting was helping her to become relaxed hence the yawn.

But the more i think about it the more it makes sense. I think humans use a lot of the same behaviours. I look away from shop assistants when I don’t want help. I yawn a lot at work when I’m stressed.

Do these signals work for all species or am i just nuts.

(i gave the vid 5 stars *****. Thanks again kikopup )

Thanks a lot. I read the book from Turid Rudgaas and use it. I helps me a lot. I sent this video to my “dog” friends, because the explanations, espacially with pure dog reactions is great. Thanks for that.
